RESERVA NATURAL AMAZILI
The Nature Reserve is a Voluntary Conservation Area (VCA) and is located in Chankom, Yucatan, Mexico, its focus is the Protection and Conservation of Flora and Fauna through Ecotourism and Community Tourism. More than 120 species have been recorded here, including several endangered species.
By coming to this reserve you will have the opportunity to visit the area between the communities of Tzucmuuc (Chankom) and Yaxlé (Kaua) where they now offer tours on their trails for the observation of birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles with Community Guides and certified in Nature-oriented Tourism (NOM-09-TUR-2002).
In addition to the nature trails, the cooperative has involved community members who offer food and activities characteristic of the Mayan culture. As founding member Ismael Arellano Ciau comments: "It combines aspects that are already iconic, such as Chichén Itzá, with living Mayan culture. Chichén is very important as such, but it only shows the aspects of the past, of the Mayas who no longer live or are there, the Mayan culture is still persistent but it is in the communities. That combination is something exclusive for the tourist", he emphasizes.
